The new Science and Engineering Building (SEB) will be a state-of-the-art facility that creates a world-class environment for interdisciplinary research and education. The building, which opens this year, will support innovative research approaches and will house new technologies that are conceived and developed through collaboration among faculty in the sciences, engineering, fine arts, health sciences, and allied units on campus. Students will be offered expanded and more specialized fields of study, with hands-on experience gained using the most technologically advanced equipment available.

Research activity will focus on the following interdisciplinary themes:
- Information, data, and communications technology;
- Arid lands environmental science, policy, and engineering;
- Energy and materials science and engineering; and
- Entertainment and convention technology and engineering.
The SEB will contain flexible laboratory and teaching space, offices, high-tech conference rooms, and integrated research areas designed to enhance discovery through teaching and learning.
