MESSAGE FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT OF RESEARCH

Welcome to the website of UNLV’s Division of Research and Graduate Studies. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to discuss our efforts to advance the UNLV research enterprise and share news of our progress in many areas.

UNLV has made great strides in recent years in building its reputation as a nationally recognized research university. Our classification in the category of “high research activity” by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching speaks to our success in and commitment to research. Additionally, research productivity at UNLV continues to rise, as indicated by increases in such measures as number of scholarly publications and research funding levels.

We are also working to build research infrastructure to support faculty and student scholarship. Our new Science and Engineering Building — our first facility specifically designed to enhance multidisciplinary research — is opening this year. Additionally, we are building our support staff to provide efficient and effective service to faculty and students conducting research or participating in creative activity. We also continually seek to offer students at all levels excellent opportunities to become involved in these endeavors.

Research on such topics as sustainability, renewable energy, health, and arid lands is emphasized at UNLV in an effort to serve the community and region. However, UNLV faculty conduct research in virtually all disciplines, offering students the chance to explore wide-ranging subjects, to develop complex skills, and to consider novel approaches and perspectives.

We encourage you to explore research at UNLV further, both on our website and with our faculty and students. Thank you for your interest, and please contact us if you have any questions.

Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate College
