Conference Objectives

  • Increase the knowledge of and sensitivity to ethical and legal requirements involving human subjects in research.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Federal regulations that govern human subject research,  45 CFR Part 46.
  • Improve the ability of researchers to navigate legal and ethical dilemmas faced in scientific research, including the special needs of vulnerable groups such as children, prisoners and the decisionally impaired.
  • Apply the ethical principles of the Belmont Report and Federal Regulations to human subject research.
  • Identify issues, opportunities and solutions regarding human subject research studies conducted by academia and the private sector.
  • Apply examples and definitions provided to complex and difficult human research concerns.
  • Provide information about federal regulations, policies, statutes and guidelines that govern the conduct of human subject research.
